7-Zip

7-Zip, an Open-Source application distributed under the GNU LGPL, is a powerful compression manager with support for a wide range of formats, including 7z. With many configurable features and a friendly interface, 7-zip works with virtually all compressed files and can compress to zip format up to 10% better than other compressors. The most distinctive feature of 7-zip is the use of 7z, a compressed archive file format that works up to 40% better than zip.

File types supported are 7z, ARJ, BZ2, BZIP2, CAB, CPIO, DEB, GZ, GZIP, ISO, LHA, LHZ, RAR,and ZIP, among others. The interface is simple to use and offers easy access to all of its options and features. We can work with two panels, using keyboard shortcuts or the mouse for all of the operations, and it integrates to the context menu to conveniently manage our compressed files. The software is available in 9 languages, and is constantly adding new translations, as well as updates. New version 4.6 includes: support for LZMA compression for .ZIP archives, new localization into Sinhala, and some bugs fixed. Probably, one of the best alternatives in file compression software.
