MinGW

MinGW is a distribution of the well-known GCC compilers, intended to be used by Microsoft Windows users (since GCC is primarily used on Unix/Linux platforms).

MinGW structure and installation/update is somewhat similar to Cygwin structure and installation: you can choose from several components to download, and download them for installing, or just download them to be used as shared libraries. The executable file acts as an updater tool, or an add/remove components wizard. A base installation performs about 15 MB of downloads, so if you have a standard ADSL connection you will not have to wait long.

Once you get your MinGW distribution up and running, you can use it from the command line to access the executables directly and compile your source code, or to point your favorite IDE to the compiler executable, leveraging developer's productivity.

MinGW needs some training and practice to take full advantage of it. As a small set of command-line binaries, it may not be suitable for beginners.

Programmer's Notepad

Programmer's Notepad is an open-source text editor that I found to be very similar to the more popular Notepad++. In addition to basic text editing tools, it also offers many features that are especially useful for programmers, software testers, etc. It is a small application that runs on all the popular Windows versions.

Programmer’s Notepad offers an easy way of editing source code that was written in programming languages like: C / C++, Assembler, C#, PHP, MatLAB, Pascal, Perl, Verilog, Javascript and Java, as well as many others. Although this is not a tool that will develop applications and test them, it proves to be useful when you need to edit a certain piece of code, and opening a powerful IDE like Visual Studio is quite system resource consuming in that situation.

I was surprised to see the great number of improvements that this version of Programmer’s Notepad comes with. Most of them are requests submitted by other users of this application. In addition to many interface enhancements, Programmer’s Notepad focuses on providing correct schemes for each of the supported programming languages. Also, a lot of bugs have been fixed in version 2.3 of the application.

I-Doser is a product by I-Labs, a company that claims to be the first one to have created the only safe and risk-free method to experience the effects of drugs without the adverse consequences of these. I-Doser uses a proven scientific method to simulate the effects produced by recreational drugs through frequencies called binaural waves. These waves are sounds like pulses, and after some time of exposing ourselves to these sounds, they are supposed to induce our mind into a state of relaxation, stimulation, or even hallucination, depending on the ‘dose' used.
Curious as it may be, the program is actually a sort of player that reproduces sound files in .DRG format which are called ‘doses’. From the interface, users only need to open a dose, and listen to it a certain amount of time. The only requirement is to use good headphones. Doses available simulate the effects of depressant drugs as marijuana or alcohol, of stimulants like cocaine, or ecstasy, and hallucinogenic substances like LSD, or peyote. There are also other types of ‘doses’ which are supposed to relief health problems like insomnia, migraine, etc. Doses are numerous, and are classified according to the intensity of the effect produced.
While the player to listen to the sounds is free and comes with a few free doses, most of the doses are available upon purchase and should be bought separately.
